I can tell you NOT to buy the 18V one from Harbor Freight... just doesn't have enough power to really be useful. If someone knows of one that can undo stuff that's been torqued down with an air impact driver let me know.

I would choose any of the" Big Four" Dewalt,Milwaukee,Bosch,Makita.

Don't waste your money on Ryobi and Rigid they are just a low quality home depot house brand. They won't last.

I'm a Dewalt guy and have never had any problems with any of my cordless tools.

Remember you have spend money to get the good stuff but you will be more happy in the long run.

Also remember to register your tool with the manufacturer and put your email address on the card . I get cool discount offers and occasionally freebies from Dewalt .

So here's the ultimate test ... if I put my tires on in the garage with my air tools, can I take them off with the Dewalt cordless? If yes, I'm buying one today

Yes, I think Dewalt sells a 18v heavy duty impact driver. But if my memory serves correct it cost over $350. Check out their website for the avaliable models

Well it was not a cordless, but it was a 12 volt from harbor freight. Seems to do the job and i always double check tightness with a torque wrench. How long will this thing last i dont know but for $20.00 you cant go wrong.

I have a Sears 18 volt that hasn't let me down.
I do agree with the Snap On being the best however because I had one of my vehicles in the shop and they were working on the rear end driveline and could not break some bolts loose with a 1/2 drive ratchet and breaker bar. They put the Snap On cordless on it and off they came. I was impressed.
Had already bought my Sears or I would have bought the Snap On.
I just use mine for lug nuts around the garage when I am doing brakes or rotating tires. The Sears was over $200 with charger and 2 batteries.
Not sure how long the $20 one will last that someone posted about. Guess at that price you can then buy another one.

I like my 40+ year old Porter Cable one my grandpa gave to me. Too bad it's air powered, not battery. It'll rip your arm off, though, so you've got to be careful.

I gave away my useless Snap On 3/8 cordless after I got my Dewalt
18V impact. It's not even the 3/8 drive version, its only got a 1/4 chuck intended for driving screws! If I ever see one around here,I'm gonna grab a Milwaukee 28V impact,it should be a monster!

what are you going to use this tool for? if you are planning any extensive rebuild work, a cordless may not cut the mustard. i beat a ingersol-rand air driven wrench to death doing my resto. i hate to admit it, but i just took it back to sears and they gave me a replacement.

I forget which manifacturer it is, but some battery powered tools are now offered with an attachment that goes in like the battery, but plugs into the wall..allowing you to use it either way. Its a great idea. Stay away from Lowes, they treat their help poorly.

Ingersol-Rand 19v 350 instant ft. lbs. and 280 ft. lbs. sustained. L/I batteries make it lighter and hold a charge longer (true of any using this technology). Not cheap, but worth it. /:\

Jeff,

Really I don't have a job in mind I just thought it might be a good tool to have. I do have an IR 1\2 air impact that I use for heavy jobs. I was pulling the front sway bar off the other day and thought it would be nice to have something cordless\hoseless while working up under the car. I thought a pretty good 3\8 cordless impact might do the trick. The wifey is already asking me about christmas stuff so I was making a list of tools I would like to have. Course that X-Box 360 is looking pretty good to.......

Thanks for all the recommendations guys!

Isn't there a nascar cordless that produces 650ftlb of torque?
