stock racing
I'm still an owner-to-be as I am not yet in position to buy, but still looking for the right 70-72 car for the near future (hopefully 3-6 months).
I got a taste of drag racing last week driving a hot vintage mustang to 13.6 sec. in my first actual attempt on a real drag strip. It was an awesome experience - better than the $400 Pocono NASCAR experience!
My question is, how well suited are vintage Corvettes for this occasional activity? I'm talking stock, base model cars, which is what I will likely end up with. How about stock LT-1? Significant difference making that step? I'm thinking the LT-1 engine is much more suitable as it revs higher, but what about the base model? Is the rear end solid enough for taking it out a couple times each summer?
Thanks,
Greg
The class you would be wanting to compete in is called
Stock
Stock encompasses a variety of foreign and domestic production vehicles. Everything from late-model passenger cars and trucks to the popular vehicles of the 1960s and 1970s can participate in any Stock class. Few modifications or alterations are allowed. As in Super Stock, a handicap starting system is used, and breakout rules are enforced.
Check out the classes at the NHRA website.
