Missing ground straps, would it create harder starting?
I ask cause I see I am missing them, 1)the starter to starter bracket cable and 2) the motor mount strap. 68 big block will start right up and run fine when cold, let it idle for a while, shut the engine, and the car needs a jump to get it restarted,or it will hardly turn, or if let it sit for a while it will restart. Good battery, starter, and alt is charging. Rebuilt carb. Has TI if thats an issue but I dont think so. Would these missing cables be a part of the puzzle? I am lost on this one. The car seems to run strong except for this starting problem. Thanks
The big cable from he motor mount to the starter bracket HAS to be there and in good shape for good starting especially hot.
That carries the starter current. Equally important is the battery cable to the ctarter and the battery to ground. Look them all over real well, look for cracked insulation, it indicates heat. You might think about a heat shield too, get one of the soft ones from summit, about $20
Give us a little more info! What is the timing set at? What is the vacuum gauge reading while at idle. Too much timing will cause this problem.
Other issues to consider would be the carburetor! Yes, you said rebuilt but is it leaking down on you! This is possible even on a new carb. Is it adjusted properly?
Take the air cleaner off the car and when you shut it off see if steam comes out of it when you shut off the engine. If you see a little puff of steam then you are leaking down fuel in the cylinders.
