license plate light ground issue

I have looked at a number of Light Brake Socket and Ground type searches to no avail, and I am running out of time tonight, so...
I pulled the license plate light out of my '68. When I connect a known ground to the outside of the bulb socket, the bulb lights up. When I connect to the rest of the metal bracket, it fails to light up. So... there is a disconnect between the socket and the rest of the bracket.
Is that fixable somehow? It all appears to be one single part.
EDIT: Little work with the Dremal and a drop of solder, and I postponed the $50 light assembly purchase.
