Default Few questions (newb)

I have oil in between the intake runners on an 80 350 a/t. It doesnt have any smell to it ie. gas or oil, and it seems to show up outa nowhere, no trail. The air filter seems to be playing double duty as an oil filter though. At first glance it looked to be from the valve covers, but upon closer inspection it is not.

Any ideas?

check your PCV valve. Pull it out and shake it, if it rattles it should be OK if not its stuck open and is letting oil through.

If I am not mistaken PCV valves are pretty cheap, just a couple of $ at Pep Boys or what ever

Also if you have recently changed valve covers they should have a baffle at the PCV valve position.

The pcv rattles, but am gonna replace anyhoo. It looks like theres some residue on the top of the carb, and there was some oil in the air cleaner.
The oil in on both sides of the carb right where the bolts are to secure the intake to the heads, could it be a intake gasket?

Im not sure of the history of the car, what i know i deducted from my inspection. The car was originally red, the paint job isnt bad but im not impressed, both the hood and pass. door gap is off, the door is way outa wack. The clock says 98K whether is original is ?

Im going to replace the plugs wires cap rotor today, then do a tranny flush, and an oil change(not sure what viscosity i want to use). Possibly replace the rear shocks, everytime i get out of the car it squeaks like a cheap bed in those cheesy pornos.

Whats the verdict on additives, or cleaners such as seafoam in the crankcase before an oil change? Im not real hip on the idea, i did it once on my buddys 84 f250(half in the carb, half in the crankcase), and shes doin fine.

Oh and does the pass. seat fold down like the drivers does? It looks like it should, but the one side bracket seems to be hung up, and i cant figure it out.

2 more things, when i get in the car, the "choke" light comes on, there is a **** under the steering column, is that the manual choke?

And lastly the horn isnt working, not my top priority but would like it to work. I took it apart and it seems im missing a peice, cuz theres the spring and then the 3 spacers, but there is no give/spring in the horn pad.

And in case you are wondering i dont have the owners manual in the glove box, just a map and a pack of smokes (came with car).

TIA-

Jeff

What, did you steal my car or something? You've got all the same problems mine had.

Definately a good idea to replace the ignition pieces you said. And an oil and tranny flush are good too.

If you can actually get your old shocks out, I'd say go for it and replace them with some Bilsteins or Coneys. Best out there.

I'm not too big on additive garbage. I'd leave it alone.

Yes, the passenger side seat should fold down. I don't really have a guess as to what's going on there.

The **** under the steering column is the manual override switch for your headlights. It should be pushed in all the time. If you want to keep the headlights up while the car is off and the lights are off, pull it down and they'll stay up. Push it in and they'll go back down.

It's a pretty common thing for a late C3 horn to not work, I see that problem a lot. You might be missing the shaft that the spring goes around. I think Sixfooter (he's a forum member here) has a diagram of it.

No, this would be the last car i would want to steal, for 8k$ this car (in my mind) should be in alot better shape. With the seafoam, I'd use it to clean out the built up gunk, but at the same im worried that it would cause internal damage by thinning the oil too much, and leaving trace amounts of it after the oil change.

So what am I supposed to do when the "choke" light comes on then?

Ok yesterday i changed the plugs wires cap and rotor, now the tach is all screwy, well screwier. Before it would levitate at 700 with engine off, now it starts at 6k then tries to wrap around? Whats up with that?

I checked the lead for the tach on the cap, and there were two wires, and one of them looked like it had a jumper on it, it didnt seem to go anywhere nor did it fit, so i have no idea what the third wire is for.

The car runs fantastic compared to before, now you can call it a Corvette, before she was at a chevette level. Tomarrow i get the tranny flushed so that should help even more.

I still havent figured out why the pass seat wont fold down though.

It's possible that oil is coming up through the intake bolt holes. I just had this problem on the bolts near the intake heat crossover. Some of the bolt holes through the intake to the head are open to the oil valley, so if it is near those bolts, it may be the same problem I had. There was no "trails" coming down the intake, so that's how I figured out where it was coming from. I backed the bolts out, put some gasket sealer on the threads, replaced and re-torked, problem solved.

Yup, that's what it is, but i havent fixed it yet. I have other problems now...coolant just started puking out from the drivers side somewhere, I gotta track that down tommarow. If it isnt one thing its another with this car, my 944 is never this troublesome.
