Default question on heater/ac control

Does anyone have experience with the heater fan/ ac control assembly in the center console? Mine looks intact and appears to function correctly but the left side orange indicator does not move when the control wheel is turned. The right side is OK.

I am afraid to take this little bugger apart. This looks complicated and reminds me of so many things I have started to repair and then......well......you know what happens next......

Experiences and feedback are welcome!

the left wheel controlls the round, think it's 8 port, vacume switch. The right wheel controls the position of a cable that goes to the heater/AC box. the pointers don't have any switching function,, they just point, and are made with wheels and some fine string,, like the dial pointers on vintage radios. One of your strings probably broke. try and fix it,, can't loose anything,, if not, replacements are available.

If the string is not broken does that mean it is just stretched over the years?

My face plate is rough so I think I will buy the faceplate kit for it. Where is the best place to buy that kit? CorvetteCentral wants 75-80 bucks for it.

Do get the kit as it really makes that area finished. Most kits come
with the string. Some vendors want $92 for it. Perhaps call Wilcox for
a good price.
Note- I got the faceplate kit about 7 years ago and it cost about $49-
another reason these cars are increasing in value - parts are expensive!

don't know,, tapped my knowledge in this area, but it's pretty strait forward to take it out and determine the problem. C.

Can anyone draw me a diagram of how the string goes?

I took mine apart to clean it and didn't pay attention to the string orientation.

Now I can't figure out how to get the pointer to move properly.

The string fell off the roller on mine.
I tried to figure out how it went back on for about a half an hour.
I finally gave up and swapped in a complete spare control unit that I had in a box of old parts.

I can see the strings there...that may help.

I'll give it a try when I get back home.

Thanks

Been playing around with it for a while now....still can't get the strings right.

If I ever figure it out I'll post it here...seems like it should be simple, bit it's not

Go to Zip's website. They have a section with links on various repair/replacement instructions. In it, you will find out how to replace the heating/AC controls. You have to put the strings in proper "timing" sequence to get them to work properly. Not a hard thing to do. Good luck!
