What's your opinion on mixing tire brands on the same car? I have an HHR; got a flat; couldn't find an OEM Firestone to replace it, so I bought a Goodyear. Treads look very similar. Owner's manual says not to do this. Why? I know this is a Corvette thread, but the HHR bbs always has the same 3 people respond, and I'm a bit tired of their know-it-all attitude. Wanted to get your opinion.
Also, if having one dis-similar tire is bad, would having two be okay, or would all four have to be the same?
The main issue will be regarding ride stability and control. On dry pavement, you may never notice any issues, but during rain, snow or inclement weather, you may have some problems with control of the vehicle if you were to brake or steer hard.

I would keep them in pairs at the minimum.
but I would stay w/all four the same. If the firestones are older then 5 years I would replace all w/the goodyear.
My neighbor had the same problem with his HHR. Blew the right rear tire
while he was in a small town in Oklahoma on a Sunday. No chance of getting a OEM replacement. He bought a used tire to get home on, and then replace with a pair of new tires.
Pairs for sure at the very least. That vehicle isn't but a year old at most. Why are you unable to get an oem Firestone?
Also, did you check to see if there is a full-size spare, and if so, is it a Firestone like the rest?
If it is, put that on and you can use the Goodyear as your spare.
It's an '07 with 5200 miles on it. The OE Firestone wasn't in stock anywhere nearby and would have been a week or more to get. I had a road trip I had to go on. This tire size isn't popular, so I had to have one shipped to the tire shop that day from somewhere around DC. Cost me an arm and a leg. I guess I'll be buying another one to match. The spare is a tiny tire, not a full size
