I bought a Summit Racing HEI performance kit that included a cap (that I really needed), rotor, adjustable vacuum advance, weights and springs, ignition module, dust cover, and a part I don't recognize. It looks like it has an integrated tach filter or something.
My 84 HEI uses that part, in fact I'm buying one today because the connector is cracked. The car will not start, got fuel, no spark
Do all GM HEI distributors use it? When did they start using this part?
I took a quick look and didn't see the module end connector, but I didn't open the distributor. I don't remember seeing the cannister part when I replaced the module and coil a few years ago either.

The replacement GM part does not have a typical condenser, it's smaller flat a square.
