Just went to a meeting for a new Corvette club in my area. Mainly C5 & C6's. I didn't join. There were maybe 4 or 5 C3 owners (including me), a couple of C2 (including me) and a couple of C1 (not me) out of 40 to 45. You don't even have to hav a Vette to be a member, just like 'em. I felt I didn't fit. Is it just me or is there a different attitude?

VERY different attitude. Thats why we started the St Louis C3 Sharks...............LT
Oh Yes, Those St. Louis C3 Sharks have a different mind set. Very nice people that will not only loan you a wrench, but help you use it!! Might also fix you some food if you are nice. i have lived off of their good nature for a couple of seasons now...

That sounds a lot like our club, though we're roughly 100 members. We have around 10-12 C3s, 5 or 6 C2s, a couple of C1s, 3 or 4 C4s, and the rest C5 & C6. I haven't belonged to any other clubs, but I would guess the spread would be similar. After the first meeting I attended, I felt as you do, but I decided to give it a shot, and I'm really glad I did. Like many of us "classic" owners, I'm a shadetree mechanic, and that separates me from most of the other members. But I attend lots of events and functions with the club, and have never felt out of place. When I need discussion about the technical stuff, I come here.
I think thats generaly true every where. A good example is the wave being returned (or not). I think C-1 thru C-3 lovers are corvette lovers ,not simply owners. Some of the C-4 crowd are now falling into that mind set as well. I believe many of the "newer" vette owners fall into two catagories..those into a "Jones's type status symbol" and those that enjoy a first class sports car, or combo of each. While driving/owning an older Corvette is still a "status" symbol of sorts, it s for the love of the car thats paramount. Perhaps there is just a deeper feeling of kinship with older vette owners. Just my opinion.

Reason: to much coffee
"My" local club also has the majority of its membership owning C5's and C6's..and 99 percent of our New members drive these generations...
Myself I own 64 72 76 79 & 98 Corvettes so I can fit into any group I want to LOL.. What I dislike however is that I am now 63 years old and
most of our membership is OLD like me... sure would like to see some younger guys get into Corvettes instead of into Rice Rockets with 1000 watt amps in the trunk of their "cars? "
With a new Vette in the $65 k + price range, the kids go for the ricers for a newer car. As to the wave, I noticed that when I passed a string of Vettes on the way in (I missed the turn and had to turn around), only a rubber bumper C3 returned it. Hmmmm. Don't get me wrong, I like the looks and performance of the later Vettes, but I can't justify another car if it won't get me out on snowy mornings and I did not like the attitude of some of the people there. I'm staying with my present club where we do know how to change our own oil. As well as overhaul the engine.

I looked into one club here and after attending a few show and shines and looking over their website, it was all C4-5 (prior to the C6). Decided it wasn't for me. I wasn't into the waxing and polishing debates. I was more interested in finding veteran wrenchers that could guide me on my restomodding.
