Default my 70 vette questions

Question#1 - Are the door keys supposed to be round or square ? I have seen replacement lock sets and the keys are square

Question#2 - With regards to the bypass switches under the dash, the one on the left should open the headlight doors (but doesn't). With regards to the "switch" in the middle, what is its function? The bypass switch on the right does open the windshield wiper door.

Question#3 - Emergency brake, pass rear wheel, wanted to true out the brakes for the emergency brakes and the "star" wheel won't true out

Thanks in advance for your response(s)

In my '77, the door locks are round keys and the ignition is a square key.

I know yours will be different as they switched style a few years before my car I think.

On my 70, the door keys are round. But, I changed locks on my car because the drivers side door lock did not work anymore. So my answer is not really valid. IIRC, the doors and the ignition were the same key on stockers.

As far as question 2, with the car running, the pull down switches should control the headlights and the wiper door. Pull down on one and the headlights should come up so you can do maintenance. The other pull down should let the wiper door come up for maintenance. The round **** in the middle is the wiper override switch. With the car running, turn the wipers on by the wiper switch, then turn the round **** and it will stop the wipers on the glass so you can change the blades or whatever.

Question 3, the emergency brakes on my car are set loose because I did not want the possiblitly of them dragging or sticking. I just left the star wheel loose.

Originally, both the doors and the ignition used the same key, which was the square key.

The round key only worked the rear cargo compartment locks and the spare tire lock, and on late cars, the rear alarm switch.

At least up until 72, there were 2 keys, round for int. locks and alarm and square ign & doors.

My 1970 has the original keys. Square is for both door and ignition. Round is for tire lock.

Above descriptions are correct for under steering wheel switches. Car will need to be running for outer two as they are vacuum overrides.

Question1:Thats the way it works on my '70, square key for the ign.& door locks and the round one for the spare tire and internal compartment.
Eddie 70 has got it right for question 2
question 3: I have that emergency brake disconnected. they are more trouble than they are worth.

I have to pull my e-break handle to just about the end of it's travel limit and that's when the e-break grabs. I always use it out of habit but also leave the shifter in gear when parked.

What do you do when you have to work on the car running (and not rolling)?

I usually work on the car in the garage so the floor is flat. If I am out of the garage in the drive way, I have some plastic wheel chocks I put under a wheel that will hold it. Fortunately, my drive and yard are mostly flat and the car will stay put.
