A friend of mine has an '82 that likely needs a new seat motor. Is the motor a standard issue GM part that might be found in a Caprice, Camaro, or some vehicle that is commonly found in the wrecking yards?
I have an '82 and this motor has gone out as well. Only the horizontal controls don't work though. I can't seem to find any replacement motor for this either from any of the usual vendors. Any advise is appreciated.
Has anybody every changed out their power seat to a manual? One less thing to go wrong...
Good luck finding switch replacements. No longer made and no after market replacements. When I re-did the interior about two years ago - a friend was helping - the housing around the switches was broken and needed replaced. Well in the process he broke one of the two-way switches. When you examine the module you discover that it's actually 3 switches sandwiched together into a single housing. However taking the module apart is not easy but it can be done.
I did find two modules both on Ebay and both had defective switches. I ended up rebuilding my original module with one good switch from the best of the other two. By the way those things ran me $300.00 bucks ($150.00 a piece). One guy would not take his crap back even though the part looked like it had been out in the weather for years and was not what he advertised. The other module was guaranteed to work - well it worked half way. The back plate of the module has to be pried off from the very large pins - then the copper contact plate removed and the paper gasket - try not to break the gasket it acts as an insulator between the pins.
Someone asked about replacing the power driver's seat for a manual - I would try and fix the power seat if I were you - once you get it working you will realize the advantages of being able to adjust the angle of the seat bottom which in turn raises the angle of the chair back - some find the reclining angle too steep on the manual seats.
I know the switches and motor from an early 80's El Dorado are the same. Swapped these into an 81 years ago (pretty sure the caddy was an 84)
edit: Rockin'm theres only one motor, so it sounds like a switch if you have any movement
I used to work on caddies years ago and there was 1 motor and 3 solenoids inside a transmission-I think thats the way it was.
I havent had the fun of working on the vette power seat but it appears its has 3 motors in an assembly.
The GM original motor assembly #14039179 Maybe you can use the number to cross reference.
EDIT-I wonder if you could repair each motor seperately in the assembly???
