Default intake manifold question

I'm want to remove my intake manifold on my 76 to either paint it or replace it with an Edelbrock endurashine intake. Two questions which should help me make my decision. First, when you pull an engine, do you put the chain around the bolt to the intake? Because I wouldn't want it to scratch the intake.( I will be pulling the engine in about a year or two to install vortec heads and cam and headers. I just want to dress the engine bay up some for now because it is looking a little raddy and I would like to see a differant look on people's faces when I open up the hood at local shows.)
Next question: Will the new vortec heads and Edelbrock intake be compatible or do I have to purchase a special intake for it?

Thanks for the reply's

Franco

They make a Vortec manifold that fits the Vortec heads and it does come in their new shine.

That same manifold will not fit your current heads though, so if you want the shiny manifold you have to buy one or the other and neither will work with the other heads.

Maybe just paint your current one until you're ready to do the Vortec upgrade.

To lift a motor out you can use a lifting plate that bolts to the carb flange, or take off your accessories and bolt the chain to the opposite ends of the opposing heads. Maybe the front of the passenger head and the back of the driver head.

Good info , thanks. I have to remove the carb to have it rebiult anyway, so maybe I'll just paint it. What do you guys recommend on the paint or technique on painting(spray or brush)

Franco, RHS makes a really nice set of Vortec heads that are drilled for both intakes. So, if you purchase an intake now you can use it with the Vortec heads by RHS later.

Good Luck, Bill
