How wonderfull that my 76 has that vega wheel. If it wasn't for that , I wouldn't think that my car was special. Now how do I find a replacement wheel? Mine is worn and I can't find a new one or someone to rewrap it.
Anyone?
they are everywhere at swapmeets and on ebay. they were on all sorts of gm's not just vettes

Really? I would like to find a replacement too. When I called Grant, they said that's the only year they do not make ANY steering wheel for. Jim Shea, from the forum, has info on converting to an earlier year vette's wheel.
My husband has a body shop so we're painting mine black and putting a cover on the outside, and the inside of the wheel will be red. Lots of flex additive in the paint. He'd paint yours too but you'd have to talk with him about price. (724) 836-1223 Greensburg Pa.
I have the Vega steering wheel in my car as well. When I got the car the wheel had a leather cover on it and was covered in mold. I thought I was going to have to buy a replacement but instead I took the wheel off and removed the leather cover which fell apart as I removed it. I washed the wheel off with AJAX in the kitchen sink and used a hard plastic bristle brush to scrub it. It came out pretty nice but not perfect so I bought some spray dye from Ecklers and painted it. After spraying it with the dye it looked like new. I did that three years ago and it still looks like new and it never got that sticky texture on it again.
When I first decided to restore my steering wheel myself I had a lot of people tell me that it wouldn’t turn out nice and that the dye doesn’t hold up like it should but after using the spray can dye I must disagree with the people that said it wouldn’t work. The dye doesn’t rub off like most people claim it does and the color matches almost perfectly. I honestly didn’t think that my steering wheel would be salvageable and that I would need a new one but I was having a hard time finding a new one so I decided to restore mine. The first picture is the first day that I finished and reinstalled the steering wheel which was about 3 and a half years ago and the second picture is a year ago. I’ve wiped the interior down quite a few times with cleaner since I have finished dyeing the interior and I have never had any dye rub off.
It looks perfect from the pictures. I hope mine does as well. It's going to be changed from the old white interior wheel, which is gray with I swear a green cast, to black and red. Here's what I'll be working with:
