I have been lurking here for a little while, and i am finally getting started on my project, 1974 coupe. This is my first vette, and i have owned it for about 6 years. This is the first time I am getting into the rear suspension of it.
I do not think the control arms have ever been off before, 32 years is a long time, lots of rust to clean up and get through.
Any one have any tips on removing the bolt that holds teh control arm to the frame? Space seems very tight, do I need to remove the body to be able to get to the bolt. I started on the poassenager side and was able to get the nut off. However, the bolt it self seems next to imposibale to get to the head.
If there is rust in the area, chances are good that the bolts are rusted solid to the sleeves inside the TA bushings. Your best bet is to cut them out and replace with new. Mine wasn't too hard ... with the help of a Sawzall. Plan on replacing the bolts, nuts, bushings, and alignment shims.
Your on the right track. spray the nut/bolt good w/PB Buster. spray & let soak in good before you try to remove. No need to remove the body just put the car on 'good' jack stands w/the rear wheels off so you have room to get at each nut/bolt. take your time, keep spraying w/PBB to break the rust hold. it will free up.
