Hi folks. I am a new member to this corvette form. I have a 1972 vette that I have owned for 2 years. I am slowly putting it back to original. Last owner spent lots of money modifing it and now I am putting it all back. I would like to replace the lens under the console. The car is an automatic. I tried to unscrew the shifter **** and was unable to take it completey off therefore unable to remove the console. Does any one know how I should remove the shifter ****. I also need to replace the tach cable. Does the dash have to be removed to complete this task.
Your feed back is welcome.......Thanks.................Gor d
If you are talking about he AC/Heater lens I would suggest getting the
rebuilt kit with new strings, wheels, lens, etc. Because, when I did this
on my '70, you have to take the heater control apart to put the lens in-
so why not just replace it all to have a clean look. Yes, more bucks
but while you are there...
No need to remove dash. I would suggest the following: remove the firewall grommet, disconnect the cable from the tach, have someone hold the tach end with slight pulling effort, reach under the dash in back of the tach and feel for the cable, when it's located put pressure on each side of the spring fitting with one finger on each side of the cable, ask the other individual to pull, and it should come right out. Installation of a new one should be almost as simple. The spring fitting that retains the cable to the tach is identical to a speedometer cable retaining spring.
