I just recently purchased a 72 corvette. The wiper door door goes down after shutting off wipers; but within a few minutes is goes back up and stays. I can hear a hissing sound coming from the large canister actuator just before it starts to come back up. Once the door is up; the hissing goes away. My first thought is the actuator has a leak. I've checked vacuum hoses on the relay on the right inner fender panel and they all seem to be working. The wipers work great and door goes up and down; just like it is supposed to; just comes back up after a few minutes. I can push the door down and it will stay down. It will also come up even if the wipers haven't been turned on and then off. If I don't push it back down and then start the car; the door will close bye itself; but then open back up once I shut off car..Any thoughts? I'm sure other people have had this problem..thanks steve
I have a '70 and gone thru same problems. In the front of the can
there is a rubber plug - make sure it is tight/get a new one. Under the
RH wiper is a relay - that relay controls the door up/down - check hoses, determine if that relay does work - it's easy to replace. There's
much more to the system and if you do a search you'll find diagrams,
explanations, etc. (Make sure the RH wiper is firmly going down on
that relay - it might just be a fraction higher than it should be.)

I wish someone would write a good, detailed tech tip regarding the wiper door and wipers. I am having a tough time with this and an article with pics and wiring specifics and troubleshooting would be most welcomed by more than a few fellows.
Dan - do a search on wiper doors/etc on this forum - there are many
detailed pages, diagrams, pics, etc - just what you are looking for.
I did print out some pages for future reference. Just do a search -
it's there.
