Default A Clockwork Orange

Hello once again, my fellow Droogs:
As I am an electrical nincompoopus, I extend myself to the ohm-heads out there.
At issue: the dern clock. Problemo: Only works when key is turned.
Oh, it used to function just fine and dandy until I installed a battery shut-off...after reading and seeing all the carnage surrounding combustable fiberglass...I still shudder. Well, the side-post shut-off was just plain clunky, so I removed it after a couple of weeks. I did not install the radio bypass thingy. I've since seen where an inventive CF-er utilized a piece of formed copper to convert the side-poster to a top-poster- brilliant! However, my dickering resulted in the aforementioned clock dilemma. If it helps to diagnose: the digital radio clock (and pre-sets probably...don't know since I don't use the radio....future project there) also shuts down. Maybe a simple solution out there?

Hope everyones weekend includes pigskin, suds, and Chevy-fun.

They do make batteries with both side posts AND top posts. They are remarkably versatile.

All you need is a single power wire running from the battery's POS terminal before the shut-off...to the clock and stereo.

None of the other circuits will get power and if you install an inline fuse you will be fire protected.

Hey DB, you wild man,
I'm aware of battery terminal versatility and the single-wire/inline fuse device to avoid clock/radio re-sets...these aren't at issue though. I'll replace the shut-off eventually. I'm looking for an answer to the clock saga- just why it starts/stops with key turned on/off.

Might want to get a wiring diagam for the Vette,, really need it to troubleshoot elec problems. That's the curtusy/clock fuse, 20A, feeds the "batt" spad lug in the fuse panel as well. Check that,, may have burned it out, it also feeds your cigar lighter and interior lights. If they work with the key off, then it's not the fuse,, It sounds like it's being back powered somehow when the key is on, not that uncommon.

Running Man...You ARE the man!
After the lighter didn't pop up upon depressing, I twisted my body in a horrible position with legs sticking straight-up vertically (the wife was convinced I had one Becks too many...), I spotted the blown fuse up there....just as you said. Good call and thanks!

Great! Now, hopefully it was just the electrical cycling that caused it to blow out, most likely. A great movie,, that was too. Chris.
