Steering Gear Box..... Long post
Today I was bored so I took the steering gear box out of my 81. I already have the motor out and going to replace it with a new crate motor. Anyway, I figured I would clean up the gear box. When I got it out I turned the splined end that connects to the steering wheel and its SHOT! I opened the top up where the adjusting nut is and there was no grease in there.
What grease was left in there was all dried up and crystalized. So as soon as I can save up some money I will get a rebuilt box from someone. So, everyone check your steering gear boxes!

I recently wrecked my vette, so i'm doing a frame off restomod...if you can hold off for a few weeks, Iwill be replacing my box with a jeep box...I have been offered much by the forum members in helping fix my car i want to keep spreading it...since you said you had to save up, I'm guessing you are not the richest person in the world either...all it would cost you is shipping

Awesome gesture and exactly what I keep saying about this forum. The people on here take care of each other. I too have often been on the receiving end and as a result have tried to give back when I can.

That is awesome. I can wait for many weeks. I have no engine yet anyway. I will not be getting a motor for at least another year.
