The fuel gauge on my 74 is pegged to way past the full mark. I am not very good at electrical problems so I had my nephew come over and give me a hand. We diconnected the wires to the sending unit and it was reading about 45 ohms which seems about right since the tank was about half full. The needle on the gauge does move slightly when the car is being driven. This car has just undergone a complete frame off rebuild. The tank, sending unit, and wiring harnesses are all new. The fuel gauge is still the original and the car did was not running when I bought it so I don't know if it worked brfore. Is there a way to test the gauge before I replace it? Thanks for any suggestions.
These are from an 80-82 vette. But similar. In the first picture I think your fuel guage is top left...don't matter really. make sure that insulator....white is in place.

Note the circuit board in the second picture. if your harness isn't plugged in dead on it will miss the copper circuit and cause a similar problem. Other possibility is one of the copper strands is broken...but can be fixed.
