We've had to re-fix several things on our '74 that the last owner "fixed" - he just used whatever was handy, it seemed. Ever since we've owned it, we've had some problems with it running rough, but only every once in awhile. Never could MAKE it happen - it would just happen on its own. Right off the bat, we found some spark plug wires that weren't seated well - that seemed to cure the problem, but, nope, it reappeared. So, we just ran down a list - checked for vacuum leaks, replaced vacuum caps, replaced the coil, adjusted the timing, replaced spark plugs and wires, checked the timing again, replaced the air filter, and used a carb cleaner. Next on the list was to replace the fuel filter. Looked up the manual online (original was replaced with an Edelbrock carb), and I found out it takes an in-line fuel filter. Guess what Bubba forgot to install when he replaced the carburetor???
Some one needs to find him and well lets just leave it at that. So now did that fix it or do you have to clean out the carb?
Don't know yet - we just found out today. And since it's an intermittant problem, we won't know for sure for awhile! Sure hope it fixes it, tho . . . . .

If it got dirt in the carb then it will have to come apart

If the car is equipped with an external fuel filter, taking out the in-line filter is not a Bubba, it's a bonified performance enhancement.
Even the Chevy Power Manual tells you to put on an external fuel filter and get rid of the sintered bronze inline filter that can cause fuel restriction (and starvation).

Well, let me put it this way - there was NO fuel filter at all . . . . .
Found my BUBBA carb problem early this morning. Holley 770 Street Avenger and he forgot to change the plastic sight windows back to the brass ones after setting the float level...oh yeah he never got the carb set up well to begin with. Anyway I wiped the window on the secondary off with a rag and it sheared off at the carb body, same with the primary. I can't beleive I did't burn this car to the ground in the 18 months that I've owned it from a massive fuel leak by this thing failing while running. Good news is everything is fixed and the wife & I had a great outting today.

Bubba did remember to install a glass fuel filter after he bolted up a new carb on my car. Just as a good measure he also ran rubber fuel line from the tank to the fuel pump.
