The VIN plate on my 1970 was rusted and fell off of the rivets. The plate is now lost. How can I get a new VIN plate?
Contact your local DMV. You may not be able to get an exact new plate, but they may be able to instruct you as to your options for a legally acceptable VIN tag.
You could try this service. They are listed in the Corvette & Chevy Trader magazine.

His ad says Protect-o-plates & trim tags. Not sure about vin tags, but he might be able to send you to someone who does these for restorations.
Hope this helps.

I see a law enforcement officer inspection in his future. He also might want to start cleaning up that frame rail so the LEO can verify the original serial number.
ASK SOME VERY ANONYMOUS QUESTIONS FIRST!!! Do not turn your hand to the fact that there is no plate there......in the state of VA, it is ILLEGAL to move a car w/o a VIN plate, it is illegal to remove the vin tag. Just the way it is. If you have to deal with VA division of motor vehicles and tell them your car has no tag, they will send a trooper to inspect the car and if he likes what he sees, a title will be issued along with a vin tag AND a title that will have some gobble-de-gook and may or may not say "corvette" and it will be issued in the year the vin tag was issued. Happened to a friend of mine. Had a cadillac that he welded an el camino rear onto. While the windshield was out he decided to redo the dash, you got it...he removed the tag, put it in a safe place with the title and come time to replace the tag, it was MIA, even with a title, his car was retitled as a total and was issued in 2006. 2006 Cada-Camino with a junkyard rebuild title... whadda mess. Good luck..
I agree with the previous posters check with your State DMV forget the local boys. Be very careful - messing with a vin plate is a serious offense even if your intent is good. Without a Vin tag your car has no identity and it has to be carefully checked by the authorities before issuing a new ID. Was there a tag on it when you purchased it? How long have you had it. You may want to seek compensation from the previous owner as the value of your car will be severely compromised no matter what you do.
