Working on my '81. Engine will turn over, but won't fire. No spark at no. 1 plug. Was working fine until my battery got run all the way down. Recharge battery fully, and now no fire. Gas is fine. MSD distrib. with seperate coil. Checked all wiring and all connections are tight. Have not put a meter on it yet.
no computer, smog, or cats
Bad coil?
Suggestions?

Definately put a meter on it and check if you have voltage at the coil and all through the ignition system. That is the first step. Also take off your cap and check to make sure everything under there is OK.There can only be so many causes of this.
Wierd. Worked on the no start for 1 full hour with a friend of mine that knows a little. We were stumped. After testing out the electrical it seemed we weren't getting full spark. Intermittent. Unhooked and rehooked all connections. Fianlly while I was cranking Scott hit the top of the MSD SS Blaster coil with the screw driver and it cranked. ????
These things lock up like starters?
Only thing of any reference was the battery had totally drained down after I left the ignition key on before this started.
Cranked numerous times after the first time. ????????
Don't know much about the MSD setups but if it was the factory distributor and no spark I would suspect the ignition module to be at fought on your '81.
hmmm.......cranked up fine today. Running a bit rough however. Adjusted the timing, but not much help. She wants to stall out at low speeds and take off even with a easy throttle. Sounds like I got a miss. Coil, or not?
