I be careful when to throw down or respond to any challenges with it. My Caddy ('96 STS) has outpaced a many an underpowered Vette, but somehow it's never as much fun as stompin' 'stangs.
My 69 is an L-36 and, while I've never had it at the drag strip, I'm highly unimpressed with it's acceleration. The 1969 Corvette Fact Book has performance numbers from magazine road tests back in the day and the L-36 equipped like mine with an M-21 and a 3.36 posi rear end posted a 15.2 @ 92 mph. Even adjusting for the bias ply tires, that aint so muckin fuch from 427 c.i. My 302 c.i. 69 Mustang convertible with a 3.55 peg leg runs 14.3 @ 99.1 and my LS1 Camaro with an automatic and a 2.73 posi delivered a 13.44 @ 107.43. When I bought the Vette I figured it for low 14's and the low 100's. Of course, the carb may be the problem with mine.

Way back when these L48's were new, my '76 Buick Free Spirit Pace Car (a Century with a decal pkg and some stainless roof trim) weighed in at 4200# (dry). With a '70's tech cheater cam in its Buick 350, a deeper gear and Hookers: 15.15, all day with the AC on. Collected my first pay-out with that lead sled.
My bone stock 1981 L81 3 speed auto with I believe 2:78 gears ran a 15.254 @ 89mph. I was really suprised.
Only modifications were a dual exhaust and a K&N air filter.
I have the time slip if anyone wants to see it.

There's no way my 190 hp car runs the same as a 427 c.i. 390 hp monster with a 3.36 posi and a 4 speed.
