Default 71 Frame Removal

Going to remove the frame on my wife’s 71. Any advice on where to support the body during the removal process? (It is a convertible.) Also, when sending out the frame for power coating is having the frame sandblasted adequate, or is there a better or more advanced process?

Thanks

Buy a set of corvette body removal slings and lift the car from the rockers (in front of rear wheels and behind the front.)The sling comes with a diagram. Sandblasting your frame is all you need to do ,then you send it to the powdercoater. It just needs to be clean metal.

I couldn't help but chuckle at your choice of wording.

I can assure you that you will not be "removing the frame". More like removing the car so that you are left with a frame. Best of luck.

did this a week ago and the straps absolutely made the process a breeze. we did the lift with the straps attached to an engine hoist that i borrowed and the body came up with zero problems. i think a few able-bodied buddies would probably be able to physically lift it...but i wouldnt recommend it. the engine hoist allowed things to go nice and slow, and probably safer. let me know if i can answer some questions for you...

Thanks for the advice. I'll order the straps.

most of the usual suspects sell 'em...ecklers, mid america. i only say those b/c that's where i started looking....i'm sure others have them as well.

you may want to try a "wanted to buy" on the parts board...that's where i got mine, plus it saves you a couple of bucks to use on new parts instead. with the money i saved, i can probably get a bolt or two

My comment about removing the frame stems from the car being on a lift in my garage. I will likely support the body of the car and “remove the frame” by lowering it from the body. Are all questions generally reviewed for grammar, content and/or intent?

Caution- Either leave the doors on the car, or bolt a steel support from the hinge pillar to the latch bolt. The convertible bodies are VERY flexible, and you don't want to crack anything.

I took the doors off mine and drew up some braces. Had a friend weld them up for me and bolted them in. Worked very well and no damage.
