Default Cleaning Car Cover problem!

Wolf car cover was a little dirty so my wife washed it and dried it outside. Now it leaves a trememdous amount of lint on the car. If it rains on it, it is a terrible mess!!!! I guess we shouldn't have washed it as it seems like the inner non woven layer is producing the lint. What can I do now? Take it to a commercial laundry? I don't want to toss it. What about restoring the water repellancy. Use a spray on (brand) or treat it in the washer?

You can wash car covers, but it must be done right.
(1) Wash with cold water only
(2) Use permanent wash cycle
(3) Use powder type detergent without bleach 1/4 normal use.
(4) Do not use fabric softners

I'd throw it in the wash machine again using the above steps.

Hope this helps, I learned the hard way also once (let my wife do it)

Be careful with the drying. I took my previous cover to a commercial laundry and they shrunk it. I did get it replaced under warranty.

With my Noah cover I wash it on the car with a very mild soap then rinse outside and inside out on the car. Let it completely dry inside out in the car. I have found that an inexpensive car cover over the quality cover will reduce the need for cleaning.

The way we originally washed it just made the inner layer leave tons of lint on the car. It would have to be washed after covering even if stored inside. If rained on outside the car is covered totally with wet lint. I guess we will rewash with it inside out and maybe this will remove the lint. Can I restore water repellency?

I never thought about spraying scotch guard on a car cover, but that seems like it would work.

For the lint problem, it sounds like the washing or drying broke down the fabric weave of the material. Washing it again may not help the problem. I dont see how washing and drying will remove the problem of the inner weave coming apart.
