I am going to pick up my new 20 foot steel car hauler next week and was just looking for ideas/recomendations form others. I want to put a air deflector/stone guard on the front and a tool box up front also.
Really depends on how you are planning on using the trailer.
ie: Trailer car to track on regular basis? Trailer car when/if it breaks down during use?
Also have to consider the trailer weight limitations. Vehicle weight + toolbox weight + nose cowl weight = ??? lbs.
the tool box and front deflector will be made of diamond plate aluminum. the trailer will haul my 71 to longer distance shows/trips basicly. I was just looking for designs people may have done
In-retrospect, I should've had the box built much-deeper, and an identical box on the opposite side of the center-beam:
it holds all my ratcheting tie-down straps, axle-straps, chains, bungee-cords, a small floor-jack, spare lug-nuts for the trailer, sledge-hammer, ball for tongue, registration-card for trailer, special 'one-off' things I need for the trailer (i.e.- specific wrench or tool ), and anything-else I can cram in there.
I trailered mine to Corpus last month and used a friend of mines trailer. He custom cut the faring used on top of semi's as a stone guard. It also housed the spare tire...and his tool box was in front on the trailer hitch. One thing he recommended was to make sure the hitch you get is a "Bull Dog" hitch. The above picture shows what they look like.

I can understand hauling it to Corpus, that is a long way. that is what I want a trailer for. like the Dallas show, that is an 8 hour drive for me. I am just waiting for the trailer queen comments I will probably get. I will drive it to local shows and events but if it is an overnight trip it will probably go on the trailer.
Ok I'll bite, why would you trailer a broken down car 8 hours? Sorry, had to do it, because that would be the only reason my car would be on a trailer. On the subject of the semi fairing, I know there are junkyards for big rigs. If you're lucky enough to have one in your area, you might be able to scrounge up somthing, but I would be afraid of it looking bubbafied. (the one shown above definitely does not look bubbafied)

why trailer to long shows / events? lets see 3-4 days luggage and supplies for the wife alone and a C3 vert with the top down aint happening plus some of theese have track days so I would hate to beat on it hard and something break and have to fix it or have it towed home. it will give the wife a vehicle to do whatever she wants while there it is worth it to me for peace of mind. remember even new theese 35 year old cars were not as dependable as todays cars are. plus everyone gets to rag you for having a trailer queen
Don't forget that you can let the wife drive the tow vehicle while you ride in the car on the trailer and enjoy an adult beverage without fear of getting a dui.

I would have to have several adult beverages before i ever rode on a trailer my wife was towing.
do yourself a favor and buy an aluminum trailer. your steel 1 will be rusting in about 6 months. i had 3 new steels before i went alum. plus they are half the weight

I wish an aluminum trailer was in my budget but it is not. I guess it depends on your climate, I am way down south and we never see salt unless it is in our gumbo our dealership has a steel car hauler we use to transport new cars. it sees about 15K miles a year and is 10 years old and still in good shape, it needs paint but it is not rusted and it stays outside alllways.

You need to contact "Bullshark". He has one of the best I have ever seen, battery operated wench etc. Bullshark, you out there? Send this fellow a photo of your trailer.......LT

I have nearly an identical trailer as yours. I put a winch on it so I could pull the car onto it if needed (drag racing), bolted to the floor of the trailer. I opted for aluminum ramps because the steel ones are so heavy. They stow under the trailer up ahead of the wheels. I couldn't justify the cost of an aluminum trailer. Mine sits out in the weather for over ten years now and shows minor rusting where the paint is scuffed off. No salt down here in Florida. I mounted an aluminum tool box in the front as you mentioned (Sam's Club special).
