When I got my '73 last year, the rear window was free from the seal. All good now. All there is a stock plastic rear window surround, I got one from ecklers for 30 bucks I think, as mine was all busted up. The "sealent" which is for sale at all the 'Vette parts houses and most auto stores as 3M weather stripping, which is a long circular ribbon of tar-like stuff. You put it in this way: Remove all the old stuff from the fiberglass. Test fit the window and suround so you know where it goes and how it's gonna fit. I used a couple of 1/4" pieces of the stripping to stick the window to the suround so it was a single assembly. Now, lay the weather stripping/sealent around fiber glass on the car, completely around, about 1/8" - 1/16" below the opening edge, all the way around. Now place the wndow and it's suround onto the weather stripping EXACTLY so all the screws will line up between the surround and the body of the car. You'll only get one chance at this, so take your time and be extra carefull. Seat the window by smothly pressing on it all the way around and screw it down. Seal should squish up above the lip of the window opening for a good water proof seal. any voids??? Black RTV, C.

If there's no window, why not get the parts and convert to the 68-72 style pop-out?

Great chance to install the pop out window. On a hot day when you go for a cruise it really helps get air out of the cabin. The flow through is MUCH better without that back window in.

I had the impression they weren't easy to come by? Did I understand correctly that the conversion price for parts was around $300.00 and usually found on Ebay?

It's not that expensive if you do source all the parts used. There are online vendors that sell complete kits for that or more, but I bought everything I needed to do mine for about half that.

Just remember what's involved when you're searching. It's almost best to find a wrecked or parted out C3 that still has it's pop out, and buy the stuff off of him for one price. Most times you'll get a good deal.

You'll need:

Window in frame
Latches and hardware
Horn guides (2 metal and 2 plastic)
Halo panels with cutouts
Storage rack and hardware

You'll want to buy a new window seal, which takes some 3M black weather strip adhesive and a few friends to install correctly.

You can get by without the halo panels and the storage tray to get back on the road faster.

There's a window on eBay right now.
