Battery or Alternator?

Putting a slow charge on it right now.
It gives a few turns and then starts...noticed as I was driving home (on a jump) that the interior lights were dim and the turning signal was slowwww....

a down and dirty way to check the alternator is to start the car, hold a screwdriver to the very center of the back of the alternator if it is moderatly strong magnetic then it is probably good, also crank the motor then unhook the ground cable from battery with it running if it is bad it will usually die as soon as you unhook it......or take it off and take it somewhere have them check it..............
