Default ACI vs. Vanacor

Since my dad and I will be doing some body work on my 81 in the next few weeks since I got rear ended, I figured now is as good a time as any to put on that L88 hood I've been wanting for so long.

Found 2. I've heard great stuff about ACI, at least from my C5 friends, as well as good stuff about Vanacor.

http://vanacorvette.com/page27.htm

http://www.acivette.com/aci0013m.htm

I believe they both offer the same 2 1/4" clearance, which is great. I'm thinking about a supercharger waaay later on down the road.

Anybody have any preferances to one or the other? All input appreciated.

It all fits bad...I've used them both. I don't think you'll find any good fitting aftermarket stuff. Good used original if you can find it would probably be the best.

I don't think there is such a thing as an original Long L88 hood

I know...I'm just bitter about getting a badly made part recently from one of those two.

My Vanacor hood was made very well, and won't require much of anything when paint time comes for perfect seams.

My Ecklers L88 didn't require much, but they all require at least a little.

Before sanding, filling, and shimming

after

It was ACI through Corvette America.

Actually, I believe it was Corvette Central, not CA

The rear filler panel I bought from them was garbage, I ended up making a template off my original at their request. Paid to ship the template and their piece back so they could fix it, little did they know I made a template of their piece so I could see what they did.

I paid to have it shipped back to me and all they did was scratch it up alittle throw a bit of flat black paint at it.

I ended up buying another panel from Eklers.

I'm sure every company has sent out ill fitting parts but to have me go through all that BS and not even try to fix it, they will never get my business or recommendation.

One possible advantage in going with ACI is it's only a couple hours away in TOledo, OH.

I tried my best to sweet talk Vanacors into selling me a rear vert deck. Two days and five phone calls into it and the secretary still hadn't walked back to the warehouse to see if they had one made up. I gave up and called ACI. Fast, friendly and easy to work with. I wanted to arrange my own shipping, so the salesman I started with handled the whole thing. Three phone calls and he was confirming my deck was on a Fed-Ex Freight truck heading towards me.

I'd deal with ACI again in a heartbeat.

It seems some fit perfectly and some don't fit well at all. Maybe the 30 year old cars aren't all "true".
