Default Polishing Horn Button Emblem.

My horn button emblem, the rare '77 flag emblem, has some scratches from the previous owners attempt to cover the button with crushed velor.

Being that it's a rare emblem, is there a way to polish out the small scratches and make it clear and shiny again? It's that soft clear resin type stuff that's scratched.

Maybe a plastic or glasses polishing kit?

Toothpaste works well. And a fine paste can be made out of corn starch.

How would one apply the toothpaste? Cloth or brush and just rub vigorously?

I have heard of the Meguirs plastic polish used on signal lights and plastic headlights. It should work for small scratches.

There is also a foam glass cleaner used for helicopter windows. Sorry, I can't remember what it is called...

A while ago at the "As Seen on TV" store, there was some miracle liquid that removed (filled) scratches from glasses. There was actually a pair of glasses and a piece of sandpaper for demonstration. It actually filled the scratches in the glasses and you could hardle see them. Now I imagine it would be horrible for the prescription, but it may be exactly what you are looking for. Again, I don't remember the name but it may be on a late night infomercial still.

Hello Matt,
Not being positive as to which type of clear plastic it that covers the emblem I would be very careful about using anything too agressive on the first attempt. I was in the plastic distribution game for 25 plus years and my recomendation would be to try a product called Novus. They make 3 grades and we used to sell a lot of it to people with simular problems as yours, boat windows, motorcyle windshields, helicoptor and plane windows etc.
Plastic polishes don't remove scratches they polish the edges of the crevase which cuts down on the refraction and makes them less noticeable. Novus comes in 3 grades and can be bought at most boat and motorcycle shops.
Novus 1
Cleaner and anti-static -leaves a smooth surface
and cuts down on new scratches

Novus 2
This is an actual liquid polishing compound
that polishes out the edges of deep scratches
can remove fine ones.

Novus 3
Very agressive poishing compound for deep scratches, more like the type on that cause complete hazing on boat windows and things of that sort.
Great stuff but be careful, might end up with a lens.

Novus 3 then Novus 2 followed by Novus 1

its a scratch remover for plastic. If you have a decent quality hobby store (more trains and models than Michaels or Hobby Lobby) they should have it.

also handy for cleaning up CD's

not my auction
