I have a 70 with the original radio I plan on leaving. I am looking for any suggestion on a speaker set-up for the rear I can hook an ipod to. I am thinking about one of the portable speaker systems with a remote. I am wondering it anyone has done this.

Eh I supposed you could do that, but I'd worry about loose things hanging out in the back of my car in case I had to make a quick stop.
If I were you, I'd go this route
I got mine from Radio Shack. It's called an FM Transmittor. Plugs into the cigarette lighter. All you have to do is dial through your radio and find a station that has nothing but static. Find 3 of them, and then program those 3 stations into the transmittor. Takes about 10 minutes to do. Then plug the transmittor into the Ipod. Best part is it charges the Ipod while you use it. Cost me about $80, but I'm sure you could find them a little cheaper.
And you can always throw it in the rear storage compartment at a show or something where you don't want to be seen.
Sorry no pics but what I have done with my C5 and soon with my C3 is to get the Harmon Kardon Drive + Play FM transmitter with the wired FM modulator.... check Ebay. They are like 80 bucks at Best Buy but I got 2 on Ebay for like 35.00 each! They work very well and hook directly into the radio. They can transmit by themselves but for quality sound I put in the Wired FM modulator which plugs in directly to the antenna wire... It has a great little display and a neat controller... I like mine... Corvette Fever showed this on an install on the C5 last month or so... check it out... I think it's the best option with keeping the original stereo and no mods of the car!
Ditto on the FM transmitter. Why install more speakers? Use your existing stereo speakers by plugging an FM transmitter into the cig lighter. $12.99 at my local Farm & Fleet. It's like having your own personal broadcast station. Whatever's on your MP3 player will broadcast out on your station of choice.
You can do the amp thing with a couple of speakers. You need a 3.5mm stereo jack to RCA's. Radio shack has that. I would hook up power and turn on for amp togehter. A put a switch on the ground side to turn amp off when not using Ipod, or when car is shut off.
