Congrats on a great find. Like we always say, make it safe first. Brakes, suspension, cooling and such. then worry about the pretty stuff.
Good luck!

Looks like it has been sitting outside for a while? If it runs, make sure you rebuild the brakes before doing anything else. If possible, get the car up on ramps or a lift and take some pics of the underside, especially the frame around where the rear trailing arms connect. Then it will be easier to estimate just how much $ the Vette is going to cost you. Start learning about car repair or make friends with someone who knows car repair because you can save a lot of $ doing the work yourself. Vettes are not an inexpensive hobby but you'll have a nice car to drive around in.

it was in a barn for a while and its been sitting on blocks in that drive way for almost a year. It does run and i do have a few friends that are mechanics so i should be set.
Think i should just take it to a brake place and let them do their thing? or try and do it myself

start by detailing it, go over every inch of the car and clean every crevice you can. have a clip-board handy and write down everything you think you should look into over time. I've always found that i learn more about my cars by washing them then anything else, in fact, i just may ask if i can wash the next car i want to buy before i buy it next time .

then oil change, check all the fluids, and then the brakes. The brakes are not too bad to do your-self if your so inclined but they are not easy either. I kept breaking stuff with my in-eptness and spent more money then i wanted to, but my brakes are cherry now. If you're not too familiar with brakes you might be better off taking it somewhere to have looked at. they can change the pads for you, inspect the calipers, and flush the brake fluid. Hopefully that's all you'll need for a while.

anyways, have fun.

Great buy assuming rust is not a problem...the rust around the breather concerns me - I've been around 82's for quite a while, must have looked at a hundred 1982s...never seen that before.

On the bright side; worse case, you've got $600 worth of parts there - glass tops and alum wheels. I'd take a close look at rust in the birdcage/frame. You'll find out a lot about the car during a good wash/detail.

Good luck!

Thats exactly what it is. My comment was along the lines of "if that's rusting what else is rusting?" I'd just look close for rust elsewhere. The crossfire system is a sort of "ram-air". The airflow comes from the nose of the car and flows through a passage sandwiched between the hood and then dumps into the aircleaner top. The hood is sort of sealed against the air cleaner with a rubber seal. The hood should have a flap that opens under full throttle. Most of these were removed by original owners. Who knows, maybe the engine was washed and then someone closed the hood and let it sit for a few years - just never seen one rust there.

You still got a great deal on the car - post up what you find after spending some time with her .
