rookie needs help i'm putting the rear suspension back together on my 69 frame and tried to attach the rear spring ends to the trailing arm bolts. its a fiberglass monospring and the instructions say jack the spring end up until you can get the nut and cotter pin on. sounds easy but problem is that the frame lifts and i can't get it close. i had my kids sit on the frame and still not close any advice or tricks? should i wait until the engine is dropped in a few weeks to get some counterweight? thanks for any help.
with the car on jackstands, on the side you want to lift first, squeeze a pair of vicegrips on the leaf,(so the jack wont slide on it, and then place the jack under it and start lifting.Get as close to the edge of the spring as you can. The key here is to pump the jack with very fast strokes so you are bending the spring and not lifting the whole car.(slow strokes will lift the whole car since its weight is sitting on the spring).
