They're American Racing wheels Torque Thrust II and they're polished aluminum. The tires are Kumo Ecsta and with my Muncie 4 spd I can lay down about 50 feet of rubber with my stock setup. I only have about 2000 miles of wear on them and they're still thick as new.

No, I'd bet that the reason for 235's is the 60 profile - if you go much larger than 235's with the 60 profile you run the risk of the inner edge of the tire rubbing against the front fenderwell during tight turns and damaging the fiberglass (ask me how I know...).
