Default Replacement Holley (throttle cable)

Hi guys,

Earlier this year I replaced my worn out Quadra Jet with a direct bolt on replacement Holley from Summit Racing. I didn't have any real issues installing it. Then several months later my throttle cable wore out and broke. I ordered a replacement and it's too short. I tried bending the gas pedal pivot arm but it's still too short. I called Ecklers and they said it all their cables in stock are 20"...so that should be the correct length. I pulled mine out and it measurers 20" too. So now I'm wondering if the first cable was stretched and that there was another adjustment that I should have made with the Holley. The Holley directions don't mention anything. I can't imagine its a routing issue. Can anybody shed some light on this for me? I'm also going to call Holley to see what they say. I appreciate your help.

Dan

yours is mucho cleaner than mine! Looks like same set up. I wonder if he just got a Holley with a weird universal linkage or something? I dont really know that much about them (Holley).

Thanks to both of you guys for the pics, Kid Vette, your linkage setup on the carb & the cable is the same as mine. However, my bracket holding the cable in place is different and doesn't allow for any adjustments while it looks like yours is adjustable. Could you please tell me where you purchased that bracket? Also I can't tell if the same bracket is being used for the return spring. If that's another bracket could you tell me where you got that one. I can't wait to get her back on the road before winter sets in!
Thanks to both of you, Dan

I got it from Corvette Central.

However they say they are now discontinued. I'm sure you could get one at a Corvette junk yard.

I thought I found it at Ecklers, but I'm wrong. Can anybody tell me where I can find an adjustable throttle cable? It doesn't have to be a Vette. It just has to work! Thanks, Dan

Try Paragon p/n 2521K, accelerator cable bracket. It is for all w/ Q-Jet, but it looks the same as my stock bracket that works fine with my4150 Holley. It looks to be similar to Kid Vette's bracket.
Hope this helps,
Pete

Shouldn't be that difficult of a part to locate. Was OEM on my 73 Q-jet. I think the camaro used the identical carb bracket also. If vendors not carrying it, I would check in the Camaro catalogs; and with JT Piper Used Corvette Parts in Illinois. http://www.pipersauto.com/pipers-main.html

Looks interesting. Can you post a pic of the bracket? I used the stock quadra one when I did my swap over, and it is adjustable. Mine was about 3/4" too long, so i cheated it in the bracket. C.

You need both the "accelerator cable support bracket" ( # 353071) and the clamp ( # 353074). Corvette Central part numbers. I would call them to verify the part is discontinued--but regardles, not a hard part to find.

Hey Guys, Thanks for the responses! However, I've contacted Corvette Central, Mid America Motorworks, Corvette America, Ecklers, Vette2Vette, Paragon, County Corvette, Stoudt's Corvette and none of them have it. A couple offered and are looking around for me. So as I continue my search I ask y'all to please keep a look out for me.

Surprised that Covette Central stopped carrying the carb accelerator support bracket; especially since they were for a while.

The part you need is GM part no. 3992386. You might check with your local chevy parts counter. Sometimes they do surprise me and still carry a few old C3 parts.

The same bracket and part number was used on 68-73 corvettes with the Q-jet carb according to the GM Parts Book. It is definitely not a "rare" part.

Update: Dr Rebuild's catalog says he has it for $22.95. He also has the clamp for $4.00 and screw for .95. http://www.docrebuild.com/dr-r-web/3459209.HTML

Thanks Patrick73! I contacted docrebuild.com and they said they had it in stock! They'll ship it this week. I think they know it's becoming a hard to find part because they charged me $50 just for the bracket vs. the $22.95 you quoted. Hopefully I can close this thread soon. Sincere thanks to everybody that contributed.

Default Obtaining Accurate Prices

Sir:

That Qjet bracket was DISCONTINUED by GM several months ago. At the time it was discontinued, the GM suggested list price was $51.63. If you consult catalogs printed before that event, the price was indeed lower. If you consult catalog’s from 2, 5 or 10 years ago, the prices were even still lower. At least you may be thankful that this part does reside in an actual inventory – rather than merely on hard drive. Frankly, if you are seeking an accurate current price, it is best to contact someone who works for the company rather than someone who does not. Note that even the GM catalog prices are subject to change without notice. In the past 30 years, GM has never appraised me in advance of these changes.

Note that as the supply of these new discontinued GM Qjet brackets decreases, the law of supply and demand will apply.

I want to thank DocRebuild for quickly sending out the bracket. It arrived Saturday. Unfortunately for me I had to leave for a business trip so I have to wait until Christmas Eve (if I'm allowed) to hook it up and let her purr. Thanks again for all the suggestions and especially to DocRebuild.
