Just purchased a 1981 - Absolutely love it - but I seem to have an issue with the alarm. Not sure how this thing functions and I don't know how to turn it off. It all started as I was detailing it one day - all of a sudden the thing started honking, then I turned the key and it wouldn't do anything, crank or nothing. I don't even know how, but it all of a sudden I turned the key and it started and everything was fine. Well I took it to my mechanic (Corvettes of Houston) had them replace the door lock actuators so the power door locks would work. They worked great. On the way home went to the store used my power door locks, came back unlocked the car and here we gothe car started honking and it would not crank. I got in the alarm stopped - tried to crank - and it would not crank. I got out on the passanger side (did not set the alarm off) Went to the driver side locked and then unlocked with the key on the driver side, climbed back into the passenger side - Car cranked. I don't see a button or ANYTHING on how to turn this thing on/off HELP HELP PLEEASE
Sorry about your anoying problem. I have an 80 and suspect the alarm system is the same as yours. I'm no expert. However, I understand that the alarm is suppose to be set with the drivers door closed and using the door key turned left to lock the drivers door. I believe the alarm will not activate if the drivers door lock button is depressed before you exit and close the drivers door; and that the alarm will not activate with any locking of the passenger door. Your power door locks may affect this procedure, but I suspect not. Others may be able to add to this.
The passenger door has a switch also. The trick to turning the system off is after unlocking the door with a key is to rotate the key back to exactly 12 oclock-if you wiggle the key past 12 oclock you will reset the alarm-the switchs are very sensitive.
