Default Adding side pipes to an original 68 vert. Is it weird?

How weird is it to add side pipes to a 68? I like side pipes but wife is against it since it didn't come with it. If I decide to go with side pipes, what do I do about the holes in the rear where the exhaust exits? Thanks

I put factory sidepipes on my 68. Used the 69 parts and got a rear panel off a 69 that had the holes filled. Painted the panel Lemans blue and bolted it on. The pipes were real easy, the holes for the pipes and covers were already there.

It will be a little louder than what you're used to, but they look great. Enjoy !!!

Hi, remember, it YOUR car, not the factory's. Do whatever you think looks, drives, and sounds the best. I think the major suppliers sell a rear valance panel that will work for you, for sidepipes.

There's your problem!! Tell her if she doesn't like the sidepipes, your girlfriend can ride with you instead!

of course then she'll be Mr. Ed!!

You may need to cut the side rockers. If you do I would find a doner pair to cut, since the 68-69 rockers are getting harder to find.

Keep the original pieces and feel free the glass over the rear valence. I just left mine the way they are. It gives me some extra chrome in the rear. This is before I fixed up the front and blacked out the gill, but I hope it's okay if a '69 joins in...

My new tires look way better as well.

Factory-style sidepipes is one of the first things I remember about the first Stingray I saw as a kid. I've always thought they looked

My 72 had cheapo sidepipes on it when I bought it. They left the stock exhaust on it and mounted the sidepipes UNDER the rocker panels Talk about low ground clearance!

For original looking Vettes I prefer the factory-style sidepipes.
For hotrodded Vettes, I like the Hooker sidepipes.

The sidepipes look great, I agree. I'm definately sold plus I have the inlaws on my side. That is one of the great things they loved about the vettes. Someone mentioned I can by a new rear valence to bolt on. Where can I find?

Okay, it's time for me to chime in. I'm the wife. My husband misquoted me from the start. I don't think sidepipes are wierd, I think they are hot, but I guess I'm a little 'old school' when it comes to these old classics. Let's face it they were pretty hot when they came out of the factory. It's hard to improve on perfection. But the hubby usually gets his way and all the pictures that were sent were great!

Thanks man. It's been a labor of love that's for sure. I'm actually considering selling it.

The side pipes are louder but.......when you pull into a gas station you get all the old ladies frowning at you but their husbands are smiling ear to ear
