The biggest difference between a quality re-stamp and an authentic one is the new shiney metal produced by the decking process. I suppose a person could replicate the aging process with a little water, grease and dirt. And yes the holy broach marks are replicated as well.

I have many pics of restamps. I merely post this one for those that have not seen or cant tell what the difference is or should be. In this photo it's quite obvious, and helps others learn. Posting a very good restamp would not assist anyone here or answer there questions. Many dont even know what a restamp looks like.........so extreems are what is needed to teach & learn what to look for.

Alan, I can't say... I only have the picture and will go see the car soon. My guess would be grease did not allow it to stick or it was brushed on (doubtful). I really doubt any funny business on this one but without the clear broach marks I am getting familiar with I thought it might be interesting to hear some opinions.
The pad or engine has been repainted at some time in the past. Pads were originally not painted from the factory.

Here is one i dont trust either..........but a better, less obvious speciman.
Look at the vin portion, unevenly spaced, nor are they assembled across the same plane ( some up , some down) as if they were stamped individually. The shape / design of the 4 & the 9 & the 8 are nothing like others i have photos of, the font style, appears more modern, and if you notice the imprint is very crisp, deep, clear & concise. This one almost appears as an altered vin stamp, as though someone "INSERTED" the #'s 171 ????? & the 9 & the 6 are almost touching ???? Thoughts ?

HI MIKE W..........what do you think of this one, I VALUE your opinion & expertise !!!

Thanks for the compliment, but I don't think it's fair to the original poster to highjack his post. A new thread would be better.
