Default Paint question

I am ready to paint my 80 coupe and have decided to keep my original ureathane front and rear bumpers,my question is,when the paint is shot, does the flexing agent for the bumpers go into the primer, the paint, or both?

usually just the clear. but some including myself did not use any at all. there are mixed views on how long the additive really last and I was told by several auto body techs they no longer use it with the newer paints. and dont have any problems

with the newer urethane paints, you should not need flex, but I would check with the supplier of your paint for any specific instructions. There are flexible primers available. SEMS has a flexible primer along with Sherwin Williams.

Its usually added to the clear when using a DBU undercoat. You have to clear the bumper separate from the rest of the car with the additive in it. PITA.

I have gone both ways and never really noticed a difference. Not saying there isnt, just hasnt shown itself yet. 78 TA, 88 IROC, 78 PC, disclaimer: I normally end up bumping something after a year or two and end up redoing a front or back.

I would guess about a 2 hour drive then. I would offer to meet you half way, but shes up on jack stands getting Sidepipes and possibly an engine re-build. Your more than welcome to come by though.
