I got the harness in the mail today to hook up an aftermarket radio and connected all the wires. When I plugged it into the car nothing. Can it have something to do with the fact that the entire interior is pulled out?
Just because the interior is out should not mean anything as long as all you electrical is still connected.
What year is yout car? What brand stereo are ou attemtiing to hook up? I just did mine and had the same issue. I ran the 12 v constant, I think it was yellow directly to the battery and then everythig worked.
Not to mean anything negative by it, but don't overlook the obvious first. Is it well grounded, and the positive lead to a switched source of power, a good fuse installed...and make sure you have the ignition switch on when testing it? If the entire interior is out, then some main grounds could be disconnected.
Quite often it's the most obvious that's the problem and overlooked.
Every wire id connrcted, the only wire I quesion is the yellow wire that came with a clip at the end, it is not part of the harness itself but did come with it.
Also in the car there is there are 4 plugs coming out, the three that plus into the harness(or the factory radio) and then there is another plug that has an orangish red wire and a black brown wire.
I have a feeling the yellow wire from the harness and this plug coming from the car have something to do with why it is not working.
All you have to do is test. Find these three wires using a multi meter:
12V Constant
12V Switched (On with IGN.)
Ground
The large pink wire behind the dash is a constant hot, and you can tap into the fuse panel at the ACC terminal for switched power. Also, there is a yellow wire behind the dash good for switched power.
Try to use the factory ground or run your own.
Using the after market's original harness, connect the proper colored wire to the ones you tested in the car. Get those three hooked up and the head unit will function. Don't forget to plug in the antenna though as it is the ground for some manufacturers.
Are you using an amp or running speakers from the head unit? They will be labels, so just run wires from the head unit harness to the speakers and make sure you observe POS and NEG as it is very important.
