Default Body Mounts

Hi, is there a thread on replacing body mounts on a C3? Actually, it is only the rear ones I need to replace the others look great. Would it be a problem to just replace the #4's with the poly ones and leave the rest rubber. I appreciate any advice.

I might add that mine was rusted pretty good only at the mount, someone had already put rubber mounts on mine years ago. My point is it seemed that the rubber mounts acted like a sponge and held water and rusted only at the point of contact with not even surfsce rust anywhere else So I used poly mount as replacements. Just a thought about rubber mounts.

I replaced my #4 mounts with poly 2 years ago and left the rest rubber and haven't had any problems yet. The #4's aren't really that bad to do depending on the condition of your body reinforcement and frame(and that whole while you're at it bug). You didn't say what year you have, but if you take off the rear bumper(s) and loosen the #3 mounts, you should be able to jack up the rear enough to swap them out without disconnecting a ton of stuff. You might need to take off the antenna, tail light, and battery grounds too, but you only need to raise the back end an inch or so. You might need to take off or loosen the parking brake cable, but I know I left the seatbelt cable on and it didn't cause any problems.

Thanks guys, I have a 77 and Chris73 you mentioned you did your just with poly in the rear and left the rest rubber. That is what I would like to do. I don't think I can warrant replacing all if they don't need to be at this time. I went on some threads on the forum and got lots of ideas. Thanks again.

I bought a whole set of poly, mostly because it was cheaper than rubber. I just didn't want to go through the trouble of changing the rest when they were still in decent condition. I'm sure the body will come off someday, and then I'll do the rest.

The poly bushing kit is about $40 (no bolts, the bolt kit is about another $10). IMHO, it's much easier to do them all at once - and if the rear cushions are shot, I'd bet the farm that the other six are trashed, too.

Just my OP you may start stressing the glass panels by just changing the #4 mounts. The rubber is toast after 30 yrs.

And mixing poly and rubber mounts is probably going to introduce some weird stresses and flexing, even if the mounts are all in good shape.
