On my 72 coupe, theres 2 screws that hold the top corner chrome piece, that screw in from the windshield side (front). One looks impossible to get to without removing the windshield, which I DON'T want to do!! Any suggestions?? Called a local windshield guy whom I know does great work, and he said the C3 windshields are next to impossible to remove without breakage...urethane glue, hard to get to in the wiper well...
BTW, when I removed all the windshield trim and chrome top pieces (where T Tops go), I was VERY pleased to find only surface rust along top of birdcage!!!!! I'll put up some pictures today. Plan to clean it up and POR it. This is a perfect job for POR, should never have to worry about that area again when I'm through!
So...any advice to up the chances of getting it out in one piece??
Thanks!
if it has no cracks or chips in it just go slow with a long piece of piano wire with handles on each end and saw it back and forth. that is how we did it years ago and it worked just fine. be careful of your dashpad dont let the wire rub it.
Yep the windshield has to come out. Like your friend said the bottom is the hardest. And using the wire method you have to becarefull you dont cut the dash. If it is the original wind shield they used butyl tape. Mine was so dryed out I could push on the glass and it would move. The windshield is not that expensive if you do it yourself. Mine was 120.00

Art, Thanks, but already cracked it trying to get to the screw. Just a small crack ...Anyway, where did you find a windshield for $120?? Ebay has them for $270, as does Willcox...?
The two screws at that hold in the header moulding can be cut out with a die grinder and a small bit!
If you take your time the heads can be ground off and then there is no breakage to the windshield. The hardest thing about getting these darn mouldings out is the sealing GM used under them! It’s almost like super paste!
When installing back in the car, there is enough room to thread the screws back in to the header. You have to put the screw in the hole and then insert the header corner moulding. If you start the new screw while putting in the corner it will work just fine.
Remember too, there are four screws that hold this in place! There is one on the pillar post, two in the front and one on the inside edge of the header.
Once you cut the two front screws, remove the side screw and the inner screw. Then pry up the corner from the interior side and it should pop out! Be careful not to break the moulding prying, it is pot medal and you can chip or break it if you pry to hard.
