Personally, I would go with the 3.70.

I'll be going with the 3.70 then I guess. So what exactly do I need to do this 200r4 swap? Do I have to do any mods to this crossmember or my frame...or is this a direct bolt in replacement for this tranny...

Just to be clear...is the 200r4 tranny the same tranny as the 2004r? The crossmember in the link above is for a 2004r, not a 200r4...are they the same?

Which vehicles at the pick'n pull should I be looking at for the 200r4 tranny? Anything specific? The reason I ask is because of the way some of them operate. If you tell them you want a steering wheel for a 1976 corvette, they will charge you $40. If you tell them you want a steering wheel for a 76 vega, they will charge you $20 - the funny thing is, both steering wheels are the same! So which vehicle should I look for?

I have to admit, as much as I love my 76 vette, I can't help but wonder what the hell GM was smoking when they put the vega wheel in the vette

I think there is only one 200-4r. I think many people get them confused by saying 200r4 because of the 700r4.

VanSteel only carries the 3.73 ring/pinion and not the 3.70 ring and pinion...so I'll be getting the 3.73 gear ratio and a 200r4 tranny (has the overdrive to reduce the RPMS of the new gear). I just hope I don't regret the swap. I'll be using the largest tires which will fit on the original trailing arms without modifications, without modification of the hypercoil leaf spring, and also without the use of flares on the body. This thing is gonna be sick! I'm so excited, I can't wait to get this thing on the road

Are they sure that ring & pinion is for a C3? The C3 spicers use the 3.70. The 12 bolt spicers in the SS's like the Chevelles and such used the 3.73. The Dana series in the C4's might use a 3.73 gear, but I have never heard of a 3.73 in a C3 vette.

Also, I did a quick search and here is a list of CF members that have the 200 4r.

I just checked... Make sure the gear is 3.70. The 3.73 was used in the C4's Dana 36 series from 1984-1996.

This is what you need:

Here is a message from Gary (gtr1999). He sold me a brand new Eaton posi case (just the casing). I asked him which ring and pinion ratios would fit on the casing he sold me...this is what he said.

"Yes 3 series case will fit 273 308 336 355 370 373 390 and some 411 433's"

The VanSteel website says "63-79 - 3:73 Ring & Pinion", so it should work. I'll verify that with them sometime next week.

The only avail C2 C3 373 gear is made for Tom's by US Gear. I don't know of any other. Vendors sell tom's gears so if they are selling a 373 is should be Tom's. I believe Dan sells Tom's gears. There is no problem installing the 370 or 373 gear on the 3 series case. Well check that, the gear will fit - there could be a problem if they're not setup correct.
Jeremy did you finally get the case? We were hit with a good size snow storm so it may have delayed shipping a day.

Not yet Gary. I'll call my buddy after work today, I left you some pm's on digital corvettes regarding the status of it. So will the 373 gear from VanSteel fit on the posi case you sold me?
