Do you guys paint your radiator shroud?
Pulled radiator today in prep to do Vintage Air and engine/tranny swap...Do you paint the black plastic shroud, and if so, what with? Krylon? Will it hold up on the plastic?
Cleaned, but not painted
Big hole, but much easier to get engine and tranny out and Vintage Air unit in!
Thanks!

Mako, that plastic shroud looks good. Try some black chrome on it. I don't really like to paint plastic unless you use a spray gun with an additive for flexability. Whatcha got to loose except about 20 mins.?

Roger that...
I do plan to clean up and repaint the radiator frame, and send the radiator out to a shop to be cleaned..There was no rust on the frame, I'm lucky. Just gonna degrease it, scotchbrite it and probably hit it with Rustoleum Satin Black??

What a difference just cleaning up can make! I am going to be doing the same thing very soon. My shroud broke in about 3 pieces, so I don't really have any advice. However, I noticed how slick it was and am wondering if it could actually be painted and have it stay on? So good question

I'm in the middle of my engine/trans R/R. I had the motor rebuilt and am putting in a TKO600 5sp. Here's a picture before the engine pulled out, pic of engine bay freshened up etc.I thought of painting the shroud but decided not to. My engine compartment will look like the pic I posted, just freshen up.

I painted my 72 plastic shroud using bumper trim black from a spray can. The semi flat finish looks beautiful after a few light coats. Since it's formulated for plastic bumpers, it will not crack.

Krylon now makes a spray paint specifically made for bonding to plastic and fiberglass.
It is called Krylon Fusion. It comes in satin black--and other colors. (Has a light lime green paper label on the can). Walmart, Lowes, etc carries it. I have used the satin black on radiator shrouds and been pleased. It holds up very well.
