It's not really flat black. More of a dull satin black

realy difficult to paint, if you let get uneven it will gloss over (too thick) and will look like a black on black zebra

Really?
I read on the internet that it's regular black auto paint with an additive that gives the flat look. I wonder if the clear coat. If so would that be flat clear coat ?

I can just picture the fromt end of a c3 here

Im really becoming a fan of this and am considering it. do you think it would be hard to maintain? and I would think it has to be done at a very high quality

"A few things you should bare in mind if you decide to go this way:

1- DON'T WET SAND IT. If you wet sand it until its smooth you end up with a semigloss "puke grey"- flat black is supposed to have a texture to it.
2- if you use black primer you better do something to keep it from rusting out your car. Primer is very pore filled and will let water go right through, and actually holds some moisturizer. Try to keep the factory primer if you can, have some coal of paint under the black primer to seal the body- and ideally get some clear coat on the whole thing. While on that topic...
3- don't use normal clear coat. You're gonna want a flat clear, like what some of the show rat-rods use (not talking the rusty parts cars claimed to be rat rods, but real show cars in that genre)."

is this the outcome of a wet sanded flat black?

It is indeed a bit hard to maintain if you want to keep it immaculate...dust is a bit of a problem.

I have my hood painted in satin black, similar to flat black, just a bit more 'luxury', have to have always handy a wet soft leather to take away dust from it before you can even touch it...

Flat Black(called Dark Grey) primer with a clear over it can give a neat effect, but like said above, your painting skills had better be good and even.

That said, it is something you could do in your driveway, laws permitting.

I think flat black is awesome on the right car or truck. I think my 70 pickup would look good in flat black, but I don't think a C3 would.

It's kind of funny that this topic came up. I'm leaving in about 10 minutes to go look at a '74 that was sitting next to a house that caught on fire. Supposedly it peeled some of the paint off. I wouldn't want to spend much to repaint it because the fiberglass is probably damaged. I thought flat black would look cool and could probably be done fairly cheaply. The pictures above look awesome. I think you have convinced me.

Looks like satin or smei-gloss black rather than flat black..
