Default rim cleaning

so im refurbing an old vette slowly but surely..see previous thread

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1850881

and now i have some questions about the rims as i took them off the chasis to have a proper look at whats what under there, is there an way i can get rid of this pitting on the rims, does it necessarily require beadblasting?, id rather use some elbow grease than anything but what do you lot reccomend?

thanks

Default Blasting

I have seen soda blasting with zero harm to Aluminum. The demo was on a soda can, it took the paint off the can with zero harm to the Aluminum. No marks or tiny pits what so ever. The can even had a high gloss after the blasting.

Blasting would be best for all the nooks and crannies. But If you prefer elbow grease, then try a mild solvent or cleaner and experiment with different grades of steel wool.

I just picked up a '79 Chev SWB last month and it had a set of Centerlines on it that were all pitted and rusted and wouldn't come clean.

What I always do with wheels like this is buy the Eagle One "MAG" cleaner.

(It says not to use on Polished wheels, but I've used it on 3 different sets of Polished Auto Drags and then just polished them back to a shine without any problems at all)

Anyway, this is what my wheels looked like before the Eagle One.

BEFORE

DURING.........sprayed it on & scrubbed it with a toothbrush!

AFTER........they went from pitted to this for only 6 bucks!

They're way more shiny than that since I polished them up with "Mothers",......I just don't have any pictures yet.

they make an acid that works on aluminum also, spray it on and hose it off. I forget what type acid tho... used to use it on the old Keystone slotted wheels back in the 70's and 80's.
