Default New Paint question

I am pretty excited I just got the call that my car will be ready to pick up from the paint shop after 3.

Here are my questions
It is pretty wet and rainy out so chances are it will get a little dirty on the way home. And was told I should not wash it..For how long would you reccomend?

When I get it home should I just rinse it down with a hose and let it air dry in my garage?

Will the water beads stain the new finish if I do that.

Keep in mind that the final clear coat was applied around 6pm last night.

Thanks
Jared

rinse it with the hose and use the leaf blower to get most of the water off of it. What clear did they use?

You can wash it, but if it's cold outside the clear will still be a little soft and you run the risk of putting tiny scratches in it. Rain water will not spot as bad as city or well water. If you must drive it home, I would use the blower as SIXFOOTER said and don't rub it with anything. Be sure not to wax it for at least 90 days.

Most common problem with fresh paint is caused by the owner trying to get wax on paint before solvents have had a chance to bleed out of the paint.

90 days/ 3 months is a good timeframe for no wax.

You know we need pictures, right!!

leave it in the body shop until its not wet. all the stuff picked up by tires will act as a sand blaster behind the fenders and 1/4 panels.

I too would ask if the car can be left in the shop until a nicer day.

I can almost 100% assure you the shop washed, polished, buffed and waxed the car before it was delivered to you. I wouldnt worry about anything.

Todays new paints and booths are made a lot better than the wives tales of yesteryear. I wouldnt worry about a thing.

If the shop didnt wetsand and buff the car (which would include washing, polishing and waxing) I wouldnt accept the car. I would leave it at the shop until everything was completed.

To each his own, but this is my stance on the matter.

Sanding and buffing on new paint does not include waxing. Buffing compound is not a wax. Automotive wax creates an impermeable barrier that traps solvents and keeps them from evaporating. If wax is put on fresh paint, it will cause solvent popping.

That most certainly is my understanding. Don't wax.

Just hose the car off, chamois (real one), and park it for three months.

Default Which Paint and Mix

Think it may help the guy's in the know if you could find out which paint (name) was used and how was it mixed (additives). Plus which state do you live. All these factors add up. If you do not know play it safe. Do not hand wash or wax. Water spots could even mark some paints.
