windshield wipers not working...
What is the main thing that goes wrong with wipers on Vettes? Since mine is soon to become a DD I'd like to get 'em workin'. Any suggestions?

Mine werent working for some time and I was tired of checking everything just to find it right, it turned to be the negative route wasnt connecting to the chasis on the switch side in the center console.

Mine were inop when I bought it too. I had some charred wires, vacuum hoses misrouted, burned up motor. Take the time to diagnose all the parts involved, wiper switch, service valve, wiper motor, fuses, and vacuum lines. You can start at any point, just check them all. I got my wiper door to move last night for the first time. Hope you find and fix the problem.

OK what have you checked so far? What are the symptoms? Do the wipers work at all, do they sometimes work, do they stop at random times?
First if you have not done so already, check the fuse, check the connections at the wiper motor(2 plugs,1 ground) , at the wiper controller(1plug) located under the aux box in the back, the ground connection for the wiper motor on the bell housing, the connections(2 plugs) at the wiper switch.
Cheers

I checked all the connections and the fuse. All seemed good. I'm thinking the motor itself may be bad. I noticed when I flipped the switch a ticking noise came from the wiper motor assembly. It kinda sounded like something was stripped. It only did it a couple times then stopped.

I have not got into mine yet...we are in a drought...
Your 80 sounds like maybe the resister or switch deal like my 78...more complicated....I'm down to one speed in that turkey...if I giggle the switch...

If you want to test the wiper motor try this, at least for the 78 to 82.
The connector for the wiper motor should have 3 wires. Purple(top),White(middle),Gray(bottom). The wiper motor cover should have 2 wires Black, Pink.
Make sure the black wire goes to ground. disconnect the 3 wire connector and supply 12 volts to the center connection on the motor where the white wire would go. ground the purple and gray connections on the motor. Wipers should run in slow speed.
Open the gray(bottom) connection. Wipers should run in high speed.
Ground the gray connection and open the purple(top) connection. Wipers should park.
