Default '72 Seat Question

My driver side upper seat back bumpers do not completely line up with the lower seat bumper stops. In fact, they barely make contact. The previous owner was a big guy and I think he must have really leaned into the seat when getting out.

How do yours line up? I have the seat out of the car and it looks like if I would have to bend the hinge bracket forward about an inch to make it work. Is my seat frame screwed up?

Also, Ecklers sells a seat bottom frame repair plate that I had come across. I wonder if this would help?

Thanks,
Dino

The seat frames are not very strong, most likly they are bent and cracked, you may have to remove the covers and foam to repair them. If they are not to rusted. If your handy with tools probably don't need to purchase anything.

They should line up one on top of the other.

Dino,

The lower seat frame is not a very strong structure.

You may be able to bend the lower bumpers to match the upper bumpers and solve your problem.

There is a seat lower frame repair section that is available, but to install this you would need to remove the lower cover from the seat assembly.

Your best option is to try to bend the lower bumper to a position where they will strike the upper.

In rare case’s we have seen where the customer was so large that they actually bent the seat side rails. If this is the case it’s not easy, but you can tweak the rails by twisting them to gain better alignment of the seat back bumpers.

My guess is your larger prior owner bent the lower seat frame where the bumper screws in to the nut. A simple bend may solve your problem.

Thanks for all of the replies. I just wanted to make sure before I started tweaking the seat frame a bit. I may just pull the covers off and replace the foams while I am at it.

Thanks again,
Dino
