Hey guyz just got me a 1980 Vette she is a Beut. One owner 78,000 original miles, white with burgandy interior Anyway got two questions that I know yall can help me with First- At some point I would like to repaint the car right now it still has the factory original paint. My question is does it hurt the value of the car if I were to paint it a different color?
Second- If yall have any pics of c3's with wheels I would love to see them because I am not sure what kind I want to get Has anyone seen C6 wheels on a C3? Thanks Guys
Oh yeah did I mention I got her for $7,000! I am in the process of gettin some pics up of her in fact I have a couple up in the C4 section with my black 89 vette I am currently trying to sell go check them out My thread is in the c4s for sale the title of the thread is F/S 89 Auto Coupe
Welcome aboard! It's a great feeling isn't it, I was in your shoes just a few months ago.
Don't know what the consensus would be regarding the paint, but the chrome bumper guys seem to have a lock on originality and value for C3's. For us rubber bumper guys, unless it has some unique history or has been in a vault for 20+ years I wouldn't worry too much about originality and value... which I personally like, we have a clean slate to do whatever we want to our vettes.
You're already off to a good start by finding a resource like this!

I agree with AK on the paint. If you don't have chrome bumpers I wouldn't worry about hurting your retirement by painting it the color you want. Do a search on C3's with different wheels. It should turn up a bunch of good looking wheels.

no real value to hurt here, in fact the value should go up depending on the resto-mod's you do. Check out some of the custom C3's in the general section. True works of art to look at & drive. No trailer queens in the C3 section. Welcome.
You will have alot of enjoyment with that car and this Forum. Ther are a lot of knowledgeable people here who are alway willing to help
You found a great year and I'm not just being biased; the '80 is a great car for mods and many C3 folks like the '80 for reasons that you will find on here.
The paint change may not hurt the value, but individuals who want original Vettes are not interested in such cars unless the price is right and they can repaint.
I also recently joined the ranks of rubber bumper C3 owners. I was in the same boat as you regarding color. Mine is in the midst of a major facelift. My garage has never seen such a mess. I have decided to go away from the original color and go with some torq thrust rims.
Anyways good luck with the new baby and check out the gallery of C3's on this site. I got a lot of great ideas from it.
Sounds like you have a nice car,the only question that comes to mind is does it need paint? Oh well one more question,do you like the color? As far as value if you are a NCRS guy and looking for points and the paint is good,of course do not paint it.But if you love your car and you want to express yourself by all means, its yours an extension of you, go for the look that makes you happy!Nuff said

I bought an '80 for that reason. It was the last of the Corvettes without a computer.
There were more than 40,000 Corvettes made in '80 and too many of them are still on the road to have any collector value. When I bought my car, it was red with an Oyster interior and I knew it had been repainted. When I had it media blasted to be repainted again (still red), I learned that it was originally Code 28 Dark Blue Metalic. We liked that color better than red with an Oyster interior, so we had it painted the original color.
I recommend you paint it any color you want as long as it goes with your interior color. Personally, I like contrasting interior-exterior. A burgandy interior limits you a little. In my opinion, a nice pearl or silver would look nice with the contrasting burgandy.
